Record-Holding Animals

Animals can break world records too. Here are a few of the most daring record-holding animals.

The largest animal

The largest animal on Earth is the Antarctic blue whale. These sea creatures can weigh as much as 33 elephants – that’s more than 130 000 kilograms! They can grow to be nearly 30 metres long. Fun fact: Their heart is about the size of a small car.

The first animals to circle the moon

The winners of this world record are two Russian tortoises. In 1968, these two creatures started their journey around the moon in a space-craft named Zond 5. Six days later, they returned to Earth – alive and healthy.

The animal with the most views on YouTube

Maymo is a Lemon Beagle who has a flair for getting into hilarious situations with his owners. In 2018, he had nearly
700 million views, making him the animal with the most views on YouTube. This is one famous canine!

The animal that can turn its head the farthest

Hoo-hoo! It’s the owl, of course. Unlike humans, these animals can’t move their eyeballs. So for them to see what’s around them, they can turn their heads 270 degrees. That’s muuuuuch farther than we can.

The deadliest animal

It’s not a shark. It’s not a lion. The correct answer is a mosquito! These bugs are the cause of about one million people’s deaths per year due to the diseases they spread. Malaria and dengue fever are two of the most dangerous illnesses caused by certain mosquito species. People get infected when the pesky pest feeds on blood and leaves viruses behind that makes them extremely sick.
