10 things powerful women do everyday

Want to be a successful and powerful woman (and how to empower other women) at home and work? Here’s how:

1. Don’t let others interrupt you

Not only is being interrupted annoying, it can also feel so disempowering. Whether it’s an over-excitable friend or a rude colleague, a firm, ‘Excuse me, please let me finish my sentence,’ is a polite way of regaining control of the conversation you’re having.

2. Make your bed

Starting your day by making your bed will give you a sense of accomplishment – all before even arriving at the office. Feeling on top of things in the morning will set the tone for the rest of the day.

3. Show gratitude

The Beatles were really on to something when they said, ‘I get by with a little help from my friends,’ but we’ll go one step further and say, ‘We get by with a little help from, well, everyone.’ Successful people know that they didn’t make it to the top all by themselves, so they show gratitude to the people around them every day.

4.  Keep learning

You don’t have to take night classes or go to seminars to keep learning. It can be as easy as picking up the newspaper or following a business blog.

5. Socialise with colleagues

You’re really busy, we get it, but grabbing lunch with your colleagues occasionally is a great networking opportunity. And it’s fun! You never know how the connections you make at work will benefit you in the future, so don’t stay chained to your desk or cooped up in your WFH office.

6.  Make time for yourself

It can be as simple as having an afternoon coffee break or going for an early-morning walk in your neighbourhood. Whatever it is, though, doing something for yourself will help you recharge – and no one gets more done than someone whose batteries are at 100%.

7. Do a power pose

Commonly known as the Wonder Woman pose, simply putting your hands on your hips and puffing out your chest can reduce anxiety and boost confidence. There’s even a Harvard study to prove it. Do this in the morning before important meetings to reap the benefits.

8. Set boundaries

If you always end up working late because you can’t say no to the boss, it is time you set some boundaries. While it may seem easier to just go with the flow (and then moan about it to your friends over cocktails), not setting boundaries can be truly exhausting. And contrary to popular belief, setting them can actually help to strengthen your personal and professional relationships too.

9. Be kind

The Devil Wears Prada is just a movie – you don’t have to be like Andy Sachs to get to the top. Treat everyone with the respect they deserve, from the cleaning staff to the CEO.

10. Be punctual

Being on time says more about you than you think. Whether it’s a date or meeting, being punctual shows you’re reliable, organised, and respectful
