Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus review

We loved Samsung’s original Buds. Their decent size and shape made them easy to handle in and out of their combination charging dock and carry case. They took top honours in our shoot-out between eight pairs of true wireless buds a few months ago. But despite great sound, the original Buds suffered from one fatal flaw: poor voice-call quality.

We’re delighted that with the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus, Samsung have kept the design but improved the Bluetooth connection, the battery life (now 11 hours claimed) and, indeed, the voice-call quality. They are now a dual-driver design, with separate low- and high-frequency drivers for better tonal balance, and with a smarter mic system, all developed and tuned by audio specialist firm AKG, now a Samsung company.

The Buds+ companion app allows you to fine-tune the tap controls, adjust the sound profile and set how much ambient sound to allow in.We’re not thrilled about the splash-proof rating of IPX2, which keeps us nervous about heavy gym sweating, but the solid sound performance, comfortable fit and easy handling more than makes up for it.

Our favourite true wireless buds combine great sound and voice quality and are also easy to use. Unlike some premium buds these don’t look completely odd and are somewhat affordable.

Dual-driver design, IPX2 splash proof, Bluetooth 5, 11 hours battery(claimed), R2 500
