SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 review

This is the ultimate flash drive, as far as we’re concerned. There’s almost nothing we can add to this product that would make it a better tool for your digital toolkit. Goes without saying it’s our new favourite toy, too.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is smaller than a bank card and less than 1 cm thick, so this portable drive fits in just about anywhere. It weighs just a few grams but it is tough as nails so you don’t have to pamper it for fear of losing your precious data.

It’s actually a whole SSD drive, like what you would find in a modern laptop. It has no moving parts: it’s all just memory chips, but it holds a whopping 500 GB of data. Of course, if you’re going to be working with that amount of data, you’ll want top transfer speeds, and that is what you’ll get thanks to the USB-C port, which supports speeds of over 1Gb per second both reading and writing from the drive.

It’s covered in a tough silicon shell that keeps the drive water- and dust proof to IP55, so you can take it on adventures with peace of mind. In fact SanDisk is so confident of its durability, that it carries a five-year warranty.

102 × 53 × 10 mm, NVME solid state drive, 500 GB capacity, USB-C 3.2, 1050 MB read / 1000 MB write speed, R3 000

At a purely practical level, it also has a reinforced ring built in, so you can easily attach it to bags, belts and keychains.
