The Ultimate Summer Beauty Routine

As temperatures soar, get your summer beauty routine ready with glowy make-up, sun-protected hair and healthy skin!

MAKE-UP

Summer beauty is all about getting your skin glowing naturally with unfussy make-up and sun-catching shimmers dusted in the right places. Too much of anything can be a bad thing, and the same goes for sun worshipping, so fake it with a blusher that is redder than you’re used to for that ‘caught the sun’ look. Forget the rules of contouring that hollow out your cheeks. Instead, use a light dusting of bronzer buffed along the cheekbone for gorgeous end-of-day glowy skin. Highlighter plays an important role in creating a shine where the light hits. Dust or dab the lightest shimmer over your eyelids, the bridge of your nose and the highest points of your cheeks.

HAIR

Like your skin, hair can also be damaged by UV rays from the sun. Sun damaged hair is discoloured, dry, brittle and may begin to split. Prevent some of this poolside damage by spritzing your hair with Balmain Sun Protection Spray. You can also reduce the annoyance of fading hair colour by applying a leave-in conditioning treatment on days you know you will be in and out of the water. Always rinse your hair after a dip and spritz in some leave-in conditioner, focusing on the ends. This will make brushing your hair out easier and prevent breakage.

SKIN CARE

Keep a bottle of face mist handy so you can spritz your skin for an instant cool down. Your skin will be grateful for the hit of hydration. Try Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Hydrating Miracle Mist. Once absorbed, remember to reapply your sunscreen. Treat sun spots and pigmentation with the philosophy that prevention is better than cure. Wide-brimmed hats and daily sunscreen is a good start. Add to your defence by using a product like Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector & Optimizer, which fights to even out and brighten your skin tone. Load up on antioxidants as well to prevent and treat UV sun damage. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant found in high doses in fruit such as berries and oranges, so be sure to include them in your diet. Also look out for skincare products that contain Vitamin C for wrinkle reversing power.

TANNING

Technically there is no such thing as a safe tan, no matter what your skin colour is. Keep skin protected at all times with a high SPF and fake that glow with Clarins Delicious Self Tanning Cream. Your skin texture is something that you have control over. By incorporating dry body brushing and exfoliation into your routine, you can improve circulation and reduce cellulite, improving the overall smoothness of your skin.

HAND CARE

Sunset tones are here to stay and these warm colours work wonders at enhancing your tan. Nothing says you’re on holiday like a pop of bright colour on your nails. Get your hands looking smooth and hydrated with a night-time treatment hand cream like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment, it’s a fast-absorbing gel cream that keeps hands moisturised for up to eight hours. One of the first areas to start showing signs of ageing, our hands give away neglect like no other. To avoid sun spots and loss of elastin, keep them protected from sun damage just like you would your face by applying a high SPF frequently.
