Thembalethu Support Group

The group of women that forms part of this NPO, Thembalethu Support Group is doing amazing things for the community – we’re thrilled that they’re one of our latest Club Cares recipients

at Club, we like to celebrate and give thanks to those people who make it their duty to improve the lives of others. It’s for that very reason that we donate R10 000 every second month to a registered NPO that our subscribers nominate. One of our most recent Club Cares recipients is the team from the Thembalethu Support Group. We sat down with Thandi Nomsa Skosana, secretary of the NPO, to learn more about what they do, and why it’s important to them.

About Thembalethu

A relatively new establishment, the NPO was founded by Elizabeth Mnguni on 15 March 2021. They have many areas on which they focus, but ultimately, they hope to enrich and lighten the burden on the lives of the elderly and unemployed by providing training and development skills in sewing and other crafts. They also offer basic skills training to the older people in the community in the formof basic computer literacy and business planning. ‘As the Thembalethu Support Group we do sewing ourselves, handout food parcels, teach women to sew, we go around the community helping elderly people, rescuing youth from drugs and once a the month we give people soup and bread,’ Thandi explains. They live according to their slogan, ‘Siyanakekela’, which means to care about the community. ‘The whole country is our community – we’re passionate about helping those who are in need and helping them to develop necessary skills to make a good living for themselves.’

The best is yet to come

Thandi shares that they have many dreams for the NPO’s future. Their hope is to move from the garage that they’re operating from into a bigger space. ‘We would also like to see ourselves having sewing shops and supplying our products to bigger shops. We want to see Thembalethu Support Group growing with integrity and for it to be known for its care for the community.’ About their Club Cares donation, she says, ‘We were happy and over the moon about the news of the R10 000 donation!’ she says. ‘We will be using the money to buy material and food supplies for those who are in need.’ The Thembalethu Support Group team exclaims their gratitude towards the Club subscriber who nominated them. We simply can’t wait to see what heights they’ll reach as the NPO continues to grow. Keep your eyes peeled for our follow-up with the Thembalethu Support Group in a future issue.
